Mouth's Crooked Teeth
For what seems a long time ago to me, I was going to do a post that was somewhat inspired by this one by Rachel over at A Southern Fairytale. Just a warning of sorts, there is a photo on that post that is not for those with weak tummy's. I shivered when I saw it again, and it has been MONTHS!
I related to what she wrote, even though the circumstances and injury was different, it still took me back.

Way back.

To when my youngest, Mouth, was just 16 months old. He was just learning to walk. (He is the BABY remember?!!!) Hubby was off in far away desert land. I was flipping through a Lands End catalog, he was no more than 2 feet from me, in my peripheral vision. He was standing up at this little kid table. He started to push it, to walk and the next thing I know he's flat on the floor screaming. He was under the table his face flat on the floor. I scoop him up, head to my shoulder. I was thinking he just bit his lip. When he didn't start to calm down I pulled him away from my shoulder to see what had happened. When I looked inside his mouth it was full of blood, and where his 2 front teeth should have been there was just bloody gums, no teeth. I freaked out. Even now, as I write this, I have tears in my eyes and I am trying to control my shakes.

We went to the ER since it was the weekend and no emergency dentistry to be had in Germany. We saw the dentist that Monday and was told that if one had to have a tooth injury he had the best kind. His teeth had gone slanted somewhat sideways back up into his gums. The second worst would be for them to have gone straight up which would make the risk of damage to his permanents that much more likely. The worst would have been for the teeth to have been knocked out, which is what I had thought had happened. At least the Dr at the ER was able to tell me that it looked like they were still in there, that what he saw was the bottoms of the teeth not broken edges.

I know now why I never did this post, like I had wanted to back in October. I relive it everytime I think about it. I am for sure way more scarred by that accident than my Baby ever will be.

Close up of Mouth prior to accident.Mouth only a few days after accident. (Yes, that was Halloween)

Mouth a week and a half after...2 months after, they were already coming back down.

2 Years later. They are both slightly twisted inward and a lil' discolored.Mouth has not had any other tooth injuries. His big brother, Middle Man, has not been as lucky. Tune in tomorrow for "The Rest of the Story." RIP Paul Harvey.

Oh gosh! I think I would have freaked out too. Such a good thing they were baby teeth. When the kids were in Young Marines, one of the kids in the group passed out from standing with his knees locked at attention. (They'd been warned about that. The kid also had hypoglycemia and I think his blood sugar took a nose dive before he did.) He was standing about 10 feet behind me during a Veterans Day ceremony when he went down--face first onto the pavement. I was the closest adult and as I bent over to check on him, I picked up a tooth. One of his front teeth was knocked completely out of his mouth and the other was shifted and damaged. He was 14, so these were not baby teeth. That was pretty freaky and it wasn't even my kid.

I am strangely fascinated that his teeth actually went up into his gums!

Aaron fell face first off our back porch and chipped his front teeth. Scared me to death.

Oh my gosh. I actually had to cover my mouth, it was painful to read!

    Poor baby.

Wow! I would have totally freaked, too. I didn't know they could go up and come back down!

My oldest son once had a front tooth that turned gray after being banged. (I don't remember how the bang occurred.) After a while, it just healed on its own and turned white again, whew!

My middle child ran into a wall and ended up with a brown/discolored tooth until her perms came in.

he was a cutie, in spite of his toothlessness
